- When to use a grow light
Hi, how often should a person use a grow light? When is the right time to use it? Can you use it for mature succulents?
Hi Anthony,
Grow lights are good to use inside when the light levels aren’t good enough for plants to grow well. Having said that most houseplants prefer lower light conditions to full sun, which is why they make great houseplants.
Succulents like to have good levels of sunshine to grow well and if they aren’t getting enough, they can become leggy. You can gradually expose an indoor succulent to the full sun of outdoors in the summer for healthy growth and ease them back indoors before the winter. If this is not possible, a grow light can be helpful, however you need to meet the specific needs of the plant, and also consider winter dormancy when light levels are naturally lower.
So, it pays to do your research first, to make sure you get a grow light that matches the needs of your plants, but also find out as much as you can about your succulents and what they need in terms of light and try to recreate a natural setting for them. I hope this helps.
Cheers Sarah
