Before you lean back in your deckchair and enjoy the evening, you should take care of your garden. During summertime it is recommended to water your garden plants either in the late evening or early morning. This is important as plants are able to absorb more water during cooler parts of the day. If you watered plants during the hottest part of the day the water would not reach the root area because it would evaporate in the sun quickly. Also, make sure to water the soil directly and not the flowers or the leaves.
On cozy evenings it is possible to have a barbecue outside. You can place fish, steak, or vegetable spits on the grill. Of course you can also barbecue seafood like shrimps, prawns and cuttlefish, but make sure you don’t leave them on the grill too long – otherwise they might go too dry. When everyone has had enough of the main meal, the dessert can be prepared. A good idea is to skewer marshmallows on little sticks and melt them over the fire.
When it gets dark outside, mosquitos become more active. Almost everybody has at some point suffered a mosquito bite. There are some household remedies to fight off these buzzing pests. Cut a lemon in half and lard it with cloves. Mosquitos are sensitive to ethereal oils and will hopefully stay away. Make sure the lemons do not dry out. Another option is to put some ethereal oil like lavender, lemon or sandalwood into a fragrance lamp. Should these household remedies not help at all, there is also a more radical option: The mosquito-lamp. This is a lamp with ultraviolet light which attracts mosquitos and zaps them.
In order to have a beautiful lighting-atmosphere, we have some special decoration tips: When it gets dark outside, table lanterns are one way to create a lovely atmosphere. In good company you can fully enjoy the warm evening air.
With our handicraft instructions, you can easily find your own table lantern decoration.
- Old jam glasses
- Water or sand
- Floating candles or tea lights
- For decoration: flowers, stones,…
Fill the jam jar half full with water and put a floating candle into it. Instead of water you can also fill the glasses with sand and put in a tea light. Finally, you decorate the jar with either flowers, stones or pearls. If you would like to hang up your table lantern, just fix a wire around the glass edge and hang it up.
