This year I bought a potted apple tree for my balcony. It all started out quite well, but then we had a late frost and most of the blooms dropped off. I ended up with just one apple. So what can you do with that single apple if you'd like to share the enjoyment with others?
My suggestion is homemade apple and onion butter. Here's the recipe.
You will need:
Peel and core the apple and dice it very finely. Peel and finely dice the shallot. Sweat them both in approx. 1 tablespoon of butter and allow to cool.
Beat the rest of the butter with a hand mixer until it is fluffy. Fold in the cooled apple and shallot mixture and season to taste with chives, salt and pepper. Add some chilli flakes if you're looking for an extra kick.
