Do bell peppers taste hotter if you plant a chilli plant in the same bed?

Garden Experts
Is it true that if I plant a chilli plant in my vegetable bed, my bell peppers will also taste hot?

The GARDENA gardening expert

Dear Ms. M, no, that isn't correct. If this were the case, then all plants growing adjacent to each other in the vegetable bed would exchange tastes and flavours, and the leeks would suddenly taste like tomatoes or savoy cabbage! No, the hotness of chilli and bell peppers is a genetically-determined characteristic of the respective plant and variety.
