You can obtain cress seeds cheaply from the supermarket or D-I-Y store. To sow the cress, you can use any nutrient soil which does not contain any harmful substances, provides the cress roots with a good hold and retains moisture well. If you have soil at home, you can of course sow cress on soil. However, cress grows just as well on a layer of cotton wool, kitchen roll or a plant fleece. If you have plant substrate, you can use a flat dish or a lid as a base, for example.
The selected base is first moistened, then the seeds are evenly distributed. Tip: Before sowing, pour boiling water over the soil so that no fungi and flea beetles settle there.
From now on you should always spray the seeds with sufficient water. Ensure that they do not dry out, but that they do not also rot in excessive moisture. The seeds generally germinate after one to two days. After one week, the small cress plants are five to six centimetres high and can be harvested.
Basil is one of the most popular herbs in the kitchen. There are a number of different varieties, which are to be grown according to taste. However, in one respect, the herbs are the same: all varieties like warm, sunny places and require sufficient watering.
Sowing basil is somewhat more difficult than cress. Seeds are also available in D-I-Y stores. As basil germinates in light, it must only be covered with a thin layer of soil after sowing. During the germination period, you should keep the seeds moist. The seeds visibly swell within a week. After some time, your plant is then so big that you can harvest the leaves, which then grow again.
