The first ingredients for our refreshing cocktail are peppermint leaves.
Peppermint is an uncomplicated plant, easy to grow in almost every garden. It prefers sunny to half-shaded habitats with swampy ground. It should be harvested once before flowering in June and once in autumn.
The next ingredient, lemon balm, does also not require demanding conditions to grow strongly. It loves moist, sunny and wind-protected places. The leaves can be collected from June and can – apart from cocktails – be used for example for tea, salads or soups. The fresh leaves emit a wonderful lemony smell in the garden.
Further ingredients for our summer cocktail are untreated lemons and limes, water and sugar as desired.
For the cocktail, plenty of peppermint and lemon balm leaves are covered with hot water. This way, the fine aromas are solved much better. When the mixture is cooled down (you can accelerate this by adding ice cubes), the juice and grated rind of lemons and limes are added. The amount of juice and lemon-rind depends on the desired intensity. Finally, the cocktail is flavoured with sugar.
We hope you will enjoy this cocktail at a nice, shady spot in your garden!
