Lawn with yellow patches

Garden Experts
My lawn has several yellow patches after the winter. What can I do?

The answer

The simplest thing to do is to scarify the areas (once lengthways, then once widthways) and re-sow (either as an ornamental lawn or a lawn for sport and games, depending on what suits you) as soon as the ground has reached the required germination temperature of around 14°C. Smaller areas can be cut out and mended as an option (with grass turf taken from a suitable, inconspicuous place at the edge of the lawn). Patches on the lawn like this can occur where the lawn has been walked on while frozen or covered in snow. If, however, it was caused by a grass fungal infection, you will need to tackle this using a suitable fungicide.
