Important first use guide - GARDENA hoses
Our hoses are manufactured from premium grade PVC and can develop a memory which means they will try to reform the coil they have been shaped into during the packaging and storing process. If this memory is not removed, it can cause knots and kinks to develop.
All our hoses are free of harmful toxins such as phthalates, BPA and heavy metals that are known to leach out into water - which means our hoses are healthier and better for the environment but also might seem stiffer than other garden hoses. Follow the steps below to remove the memory from the hose.

Connect the end with the light grey hose connector to the tap.

Stretch the other end out from the tap preferably in a straight line.

The water stop (black connector) closes off the water on the other end. If you have an unfitted hose, please purchase a water stop connector.

Turn on the tap and fill the hose with water then turn off the tap.

Leave the hose filled with water in the sun for up to 2 days (depending on weather conditions).
This should remove any memory from the hose and will make it easier to handle.
Coiling a hose
Coiling a hose properly will prolong its life – and it’s simple to do:

Turn off the tap

Take hold of the hose a few metres from the tap connector

Bend a large loop, using about 1 metre of hose

Move about 40cm away from the tap, form another loop and stack it on top of the first loop

Repeat until the entire hose is coiled
We recommend the use of a hose reel for proper storage of your hose and fittings. Taking time to properly coil and uncoil a hose will not only extend its life but will ensure its original performance characteristics remain intact.
