Limitations & possibilities

  • 1

    Areas up to 800m²

A GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower can handle areas up to 800m² when it's allowed to work at its maximum capacity.

  • 2

    Slopes up to 25%

The GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower is able to work in slopes with an angle of up to 25%. Steeper slopes than that should be avoided since the lawn can be damaged and malfunctions may occur.

  • 3

    Narrow passages

Passages must be at least 60cm wide to ensure that the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower easily can get through. Narrower passages than that should be avoided.

Garden with obstacle

  • Boundary wire

The boundary wire defines the working area.

  • Guide wire

The guide wire leads the robotic lawnmower the way back to the charging station.

  • Timer

Per 45m² lawn area, please program one hour of operation time per day. Example: For a lawn of 450m², from 7.00 until 17.00 or from 7.00 until 12.00 and again from 15.00 until 20.00 (all days a week). During that operation time, the mower will decide it self when to mow and when to charge. You can also increase the time per day and skip cutting one day per week.

  • Walkways

The lawn next to walkways on which the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower can drive will be mown completely.

  • Flower beds

Next to flower beds, bark much or gravel, a few centimerters of lawn will not be mown. You can place paving stones into the border area to avoid this.

  • Island obstacles

In between an island and the lawn edge, please place the two wires tight to each other (0 cm). Then the signal will become invisible and the mower will be able to pass.

  • Walls and fixed barriers

Close to walls or other fixed barriers, a few centimeters of lawn will not be mown. You can place paving stones next to these walls or objects to avoid this.

  • Charging station

On both sides of the charging station, the boundary wire needs to be placed straight (see Users Manual for required distances). This will help the robotic lawnmower to dock safely to the charging station.

  • Free space around the charging station

Required free space in front of charging station: 2.0 - 3.0 meters (see Users Manual for required distances).

  • Wall socket

Consider the distance of the charging station to a wall socket (low voltage cables up to 20 m are available as accessories). The low voltage cable must not be shortened or prolonged due to technical reasons (resistance). The charging station has to be placed on even ground (without inclination).

  • Passages

A passage has to be at least 60cm.

  • Passages

Passages must be at least 60cm wide.

  • Inclination

On the lawn, the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower can manage slopes up to 25%.

  • Inclination for boundary wire

The maximum inclination for the boundary wire when layed in a slope is up to 25%.

  • Inclination for boundary wire across the slope

The maximum inclination is 10% when the boundary wire runs crossways to the inclination. If operating with a higher inclination, the robotic lawnmower could slip outside the working area in wet grass. If there is a fix limitation (e.g. fence), the robotic lawnmower can manage an inclination up to 25% depending on model.

The low voltage cable must not be shortened or prolonged due to technical reasons (re-sistance). The charging station has to be placed on even ground (without inclination).

  • Ponds

Around ponds, the boundary wire has to be layed with a distance to a fixed limitation (e.g. fence) with a minimum height of 15 cm.

  • Separate lawn areas

Individual / separate areas which cannot be reached by the robotic lawnmower on it‘s own (e.g. because of stairs) can be mown in a manual operation mode. The robotic lawnmower then needs to be carried to this lawn area and will operate there until the battery is empty. After that it has to be carried back to the charging station.
