Catch the scents of summer

Medicinal herbs have many beneficial effects and uses including relaxation therapy and treating illnesses. You too can benefit from their fragrances in your own garden. A few fresh herbs are enough to fill the whole room with fragrance. Depending on the season and your own tastes, you can fill sachets with different ingredients, it’s up to you!

Collect or buy plants and cure them

A number of different herbs are suitable. Lavender, famous for its various applications and effects, is generally considered to be the most popular. Others such as cinnamon, jasmine, lilac and rose can also be used, depending on the season. All of the aforementioned herbs can be bought in garden centres, but you can also collect them in your garden during summer.

When drying the herbs, the procedure is always the same. If the plant has a long stem and is fully in bloom, cut it with the stem still attached. Tie the stems together and hang the bundle upside-down out of sunlight and direct light. Drying will take between 1-3 weeks. As soon as the flowers and stems are dry, cut them into small pieces.

Prepare sachet and mixture

The production of a lavender sachet requires little effort. Throwaway fabrics or handkerchiefs can be used. Cut them into circles or squares of your desired size.
You also need absorbent cotton or a tissue. If you want, add a few drops of aromatic oil to boost the fragrance of your sachet.
The sachet contents can be customised to whatever scent or fragrance you wish.

Vigorously stir the flower mixture with a spoon and place the cotton/tissue in the centre of the fabric. Take a spoon and place the mixture on the cotton/tissue. To complete, use a cord to tie the sachets.
